Repeated building stays visible in Obsession; Curry Barker officially reveals detail he couldn’t afford to fix, exclusive

A detail beyond the characters

Viewers revisiting Obsession may focus on Nikki rather than the scenery outside the car windows. Barker says the buildings in those scenes also contain a detail worth noticing.

The director discussed the movie’s production challenges and his experience watching the completed film in an interview with Collider’s Maggie Lovitt. Asked how many times he had seen it, he estimated more than 200, while noting he had not counted precisely.

A repeated building appears

Barker explained that the scenery outside the car windows was created with an LED wall. The video loop used for the effect showed the same building passing repeatedly.

He said he was frustrated by the repetition during editing. The production lacked the budget to fix it later in post-production, so it remains in the movie.

The limitation remains onscreen

The recurring building is visible in the finished film, according to Barker. Viewers can spot it during the car sequences if they pay attention to the scenery. Barker’s account connects the visible repetition to the production setup and its budget constraints. He discussed the issue while looking back on making Obsession and watching it after the edit.

  • Car-scene scenery was created using an LED wall and a looping video.
