Prometheus and Covenant follow-up brings Raised by Wolves creator back as Ridley Scott officially reunites for Alien movie

Scott’s return to Alien

Scott directed the original Alien, released in 1979, which became a landmark in horror and science fiction and grew into a franchise with sequels, spin-offs and tie-ins. He returned to the series with Prometheus in 2012, followed by Alien: Covenant in 2017.

Guzikowski joins the project

Aaron Guzikowski will write the new Alien film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He previously worked with Scott on Raised by Wolves. Scott is attached to executive produce the project, but is not currently attached to direct it. The report describes the movie as a sequel to Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, not to Alien: Romulus, whose sequel remains in development.

David’s role remains uncertain

The android David, played by Michael Fassbender, connects Prometheus and Alien: Covenant and is reportedly also central to the planned third film. Fassbender has not yet joined the project.

Scott has said he regrets not keeping ownership of the Alien franchise. Prometheus explored the origins of the Xenomorphs, while Alien: Covenant continued its story in a film with a more conventional sequel structure.
