Trying to save her sons swept away while snorkelling, British woman dies in Bahamas

Rescue attempt in strong currents
The woman entered the water after a current reportedly swept her two sons away while they were snorkelling near the southern point of the island. The Royal Bahamas Police Force said she, too, was carried away as she tried to reach them.
The boys were rescued from the water. Their mother was taken to North Bimini Ferry Dock, where CPR was reportedly given, but she was unresponsive and later pronounced dead in hospital.
Witness describes recovery effort
Stuart recalled seeing two boys and their mother after crew members called him over. He said strong currents made efforts to recover them extremely difficult. By the time rescuers reached the woman, Stuart said, she was face down in the water. Footage shared by a broadcaster showed bystanders rushing to help her.
Police investigation continues
Police said officers at Alice Town Police Station received a report shortly after 10am that a woman was unresponsive at the ferry dock. The force said the family had been snorkelling together near the island’s southern point.
