$1 Billion Phenomenon: Anya Taylor-Joy’s Super Mario Galaxy Movie Officially Hits Netflix in 1 Month

A blockbuster sequel arrives

Taylor-Joy reprised her voice role as Princess Peach in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which opened in theaters in March. It has been her only major release of the year so far.

After three months in theaters, the animated sequel became the first film of the year to pass $1 billion worldwide. Though it did not match its predecessor’s $1.3 billion total, it became the second-highest-grossing video game adaptation ever.

From Peacock to Netflix

The film streamed first on Peacock, where it became a hit. It is now set to leave that service after a four-month run that began in July, with its departure scheduled for November 29, 2026.

Universal Pictures is moving the movie to Netflix under an existing streaming agreement. Netflix confirmed it will be available exclusively there starting November 30, 2026, and remain on the platform through November 30, 2027.

Taylor-Joy’s Netflix presence grows

Taylor-Joy’s work with Netflix has benefited both the actress and the platform, and another of her successful titles is arriving sooner than expected. Her recent film Sacrifice is already drawing attention on Netflix despite a limited release.
