20 Years Later, 'Halloweentown 5' Is Officially Happening at Disney

A franchise paused since 2006
The original Halloweentown premiered in 1998, introducing Kimberly J. Brown as Marnie Piper and Debbie Reynolds as her grandmother, Aggie Cromwell. The story followed a girl discovering her family’s magical roots and a town where Halloween was part of everyday life.
Three sequels followed, taking Marnie from discovering her powers to studying at Witch University. The series’ last movie arrived in 2006, and no new installment has followed in the two decades since.
A fifth film in development
Disney has not revealed what might bring the Cromwell family together again. Houghton wrote Forbidden Fruits, a horror comedy starring Lili Reinhart and Lola Tung, while Koehn has writing credits on the Gossip Girl reboot.
Casting and release remain unknown
The screenplay is still in development, and no release date has been announced. Disney has also not said who will play Marnie in the new movie. The prospect of another installment leaves longtime fans waiting for details about the story and cast. For now, the return of the Cromwell family remains a possibility under development, rather than a film with a confirmed schedule.
