Katie and Raife’s connection in Season 2 is James Reece. Constance Wu said both characters trust someone they are not sure they should trust, and that this reflects their feelings about Reece.

Wu said Katie has more recognition and access as a journalist after her earlier story on Reece. That work also left her with a history and a sense of care tied to him.

A Different Dynamic With Raife

Wu described Tom Hopper and Chris Pratt as very different personalities. She said Hopper brought gravity and darkness to the role, qualities that suited the series’ world. Katie’s drive to uncover the truth continues despite obstacles. Wu said she shares Katie’s determination and that setbacks can make her more motivated rather than cause her to quit.

Training for Action Scenes

Wu trained with former Navy SEAL Jared Shaw for physical action in the season. She also worked with EMT guidance on portraying injuries. The season’s investigation begins when Katie joins Raife to find out how his weapons shipment reached terrorists. As they uncover more, Katie is placed in danger.

A Possible Return and New Series

Wu discussed whether she would like to play Katie again, as well as returning to the character four years after the first season debuted. The interview also covered the Crazy Rich Asians television sequel. The sequel was greenlit as an HBO series, with filming in New York slated for next year.
