5 Songs on Mike Flanagan’s Carrie Soundtrack, Ranked by Their Impact

A soundtrack with a clear identity

The series gives music a central role in its storytelling and emotional effect. Creator and showrunner Mike Flanagan described Haute & Freddy as key to establishing the show’s musical identity.

The alternative pop duo formed in Los Angeles in 2024 and released its debut album, Big Disgrace, in March 2026. Flanagan told Please Relate to This that the pair helped define the series and its sound.

“Femme Hysteria” channels defiance

Ranked fifth, Haute & Freddy’s “Femme Hysteria” is an energetic, ’80s-inspired dance track. Its lyrics draw on female rage, persecution and defiance, including a line that blames Eve for Adam’s troubles. The song plays from villain Chris Hargensen’s car as she waits for Sue Snell in the first episode, “First Period.” It returns at the start of episode three, “Social Studies,” while narrator Adelaide discusses telekinesis and women who possessed the power.

Wolf Alice reshapes a carol

“In the Bleak Midwinter” began as a poem Christina Rossetti wrote around 1872, comparing heaven’s glory with the harsh conditions surrounding Jesus’s birth. It became a Christmas carol after being set to music in the early 1900s; London band Wolf Alice released its cover in 2021.

The group’s version pairs lead singer Ellie Roswell’s delicate soprano with extended instrumental passages and a blend of acoustic and electronic sounds. It accompanies Carrie’s first day of high school after a lifetime of homeschooling, bringing a haunting yet hopeful tone to her sudden exposure to the wider world.
