Google’s personalized Gemini AI is heading into more cars

Gemini draws on Google apps
The new feature lets Gemini use information across connected Google apps while someone is driving. Supported services include Gmail, Calendar, Maps, Photos, YouTube and Search. Google says a driver heading to the airport could ask for a flight update. Gemini can retrieve details from a Gmail confirmation and use them to check the flight’s status.
Requests can guide navigation
Drivers can ask Gemini to navigate to a doctor’s appointment without first entering the destination manually. They can also request directions to a car wash shown in a photo taken the previous week.

Use requires an opt-in
Google says apps connect to Gemini only when drivers turn on Personal Intelligence. Personalized answers are provided only when a phone is connected to the car. Without the setting, drivers can still navigate, play music, make calls and ask questions, but responses will not be personalized. Personal Intelligence is rolling out to Android Auto today; support for Google built-in cars is planned for the coming months.
Google built-in availability
Newer vehicles from Ford, GM, Honda, Nissan, Volvo and Polestar include Google built-in, which supports native Android apps. Google has not given a more specific timeline for the upcoming rollout to those cars.
