Over half a million lose utilities as Zelenskyy says Ukraine got no early warning from partners before Russia hits power grid again

Energy sites struck nationwide
Russia launched ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones at Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Zelenskyy said Monday. The overnight strikes damaged more than 10 facilities and disrupted electricity, heating and water for more than half a million people.
Zelenskyy said Russia fired 16 ballistic missiles at Kyiv and the surrounding region. Officials in the capital reported that a 21-year-old woman was killed. Russia’s Defense Ministry described the operation as a “massive strike.” It said the targets included a data center, a logistics hub storing drone and cruise missile components, an industrial site producing drone components, and a locomotive depot where missiles were stored.
No advance alert reported
Zelenskyy said Kyiv received no early warning from partner countries before the latest attack, unlike during some earlier strikes when partners shared intelligence. Western intelligence cooperation has helped Ukraine defend against Russian ballistic missiles and resist Moscow’s invasion, which began more than 4 ½ years ago.
President Donald Trump has said Washington continues to provide intelligence to Kyiv. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reiterated that position Monday, while saying he had no information about the previous night’s Russian attack.
Concerns over U.S. support
Restrictions on Ukraine’s use of the military-grade version of SpaceX’s Starlink service have hindered Ukrainian drone operations, according to Zelenskyy. A serious shortage of U.S.-made Patriot air defense systems has also left Ukraine more exposed.
Western assistance has been crucial to Ukraine’s defense against Russia’s larger military. In Kyiv, concerns have grown that Trump could withdraw support, while Putin and some Western analysts and officials believe Moscow may prevail if foreign aid to Ukraine breaks down.
War efforts remain stalled
Trump has accused Zelenskyy of not wanting Russia’s invasion to end. Washington’s attempts to secure peace have made no progress, and a recent truce focused on energy infrastructure, which Trump had demanded, did not take hold.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine had made every diplomatic effort to end the war and had accepted ceasefire proposals. He said the conflict persists because of Russian attacks and Moscow’s determination to prolong it.
