Mbappe scores twice, Guler shines as Real Madrid find form before Clasico

Madrid beat Sevilla convincingly

Kylian Mbappe scored twice as Real Madrid defeated Sevilla 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu. The sides meet again in next Sunday’s pivotal El Clasico, a week after the Madrid win.

The match began slowly before the Turkish international sparked it into life. Mbappe scored his second in the 37th minute, turning past the defence and beating Sevilla goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos.

Penalty extends Madrid lead

Diomande took advantage of space as Sevilla pushed forward and sent Mbappe behind the defence. Andres Castrin brought down the French forward, who got up and scored the resulting penalty. Diomande restored Real Madrid’s three-goal advantage two minutes later with a powerful strike, capping what the account described as a fine display.

Barcelona keep winning

Earlier on Saturday, Barcelona beat Real Betis 5-2 for their ninth win in nine matches. The team reached 39 league goals and moved to 27 points, five ahead of Atletico, who won 1-0 at Espanyol.

Real Betis remained third on 19 points, while Real Madrid were listed fourth on 18 before their match against Sevilla. That standing conflicts with the report’s claim that Madrid’s victory left them six points behind Barcelona.

Other Spanish league results

Two saves by Ionut Radu denied Alaves a point in a 2-1 loss to Celta Vigo. Real Sociedad won 5-2 away at Malaga. The account says Mourinho will take encouragement from the performance as Real Madrid prepare to face Barcelona next Sunday.
