Beau Lamarre Condon told friend ‘love’ and ‘everything’ in the news was not true after arrest, court hears

Call after his arrest
Schagen told the court she did not initially answer Lamarre-Condon’s call at about 9pm because she did not recognise the number and considered a weeknight call after dinner rude. When he identified himself, she asked why he was calling.
The court heard that Schagen ended the conversation, saying she could not understand why she would speak to him after he had allegedly killed two people. She had no role as an officer in the investigation into the deaths. Lamarre-Condon, a former police officer, has denied two murder charges and a charge of aggravated break and enter.
Question about police response
Schagen told the jury that on 14 February 2024, days before the alleged murders, Lamarre-Condon asked a hypothetical work-related question about how police would handle reports of gunshots. She said she told him officers would likely disregard the report and move on because of the large volume of jobs.
Schagen said the exchange later weighed on her. She confirmed it was among the reasons she eventually went to police.
Messages after the disappearances
After seeing reports that Baird and Davies were missing, Schagen messaged Lamarre-Condon on 22 February 2024 to ask whether he was all right and whether he had spoken to Baird. The next day, she noticed he had been active on Facebook’s messaging service and asked where he was and what was happening in the media.
The court also heard about the former relationship between Lamarre-Condon and Baird. Schagen said Lamarre-Condon remained invested after Baird made clear he was not interested and the pair separated in April 2023. She said she later told Lamarre-Condon she was appalled he had done something so foolish when they were no longer together.
