Marshals Season 2 Officially Fixes Taylor Sheridan’s Biggest Yellowstone Problem: Kayce Chooses Therapy

Kayce makes a different choice

At the end of “Falling Sky,” Kayce tells Tate that he should see a therapist. Instead of urging his son to toughen up, Kayce points him toward help with the trauma he has experienced.

The decision is presented as a notable change for Kayce and the Dutton family. Kayce says therapy was somewhere his father would not have taken him, and somewhere he would not have gone himself.

Tate resists the decision

Tate does not want to go, but Kayce says he will not allow him to disobey this time. In Kayce’s view, the matter is settled. Tate’s past includes being abducted by a backwoods militia group acting on behalf of the Beck brothers during Yellowstone Season 2. Afterward, he struggled to feel safe at home.

A break from John’s example

Kayce’s choice contrasts with the way his father handled difficult feelings: by forcing them down. He hopes to do things differently, and better, for Tate. Without Monica there to speak to Tate’s emotional needs, Kayce recognizes that his son needs support he cannot provide alone. Tate remains reluctant, but Kayce believes therapy is the right step.
