After 10 Days at No. 1, Below Leads 3 Elite Horror Series to Binge on Netflix This Week, Oct. 19–23

Below Leads Netflix Viewing

Starring Charlie Heaton, Mackenzie Davis, Ruby Stokes and Josh Hartnett, the six-episode miniseries Below has been Netflix’s most-watched show in the U.S. for 10 days. Jesse McKeown, who created and wrote the series, also worked on The Umbrella Academy.

A Stephen King Celebration

Castle Rock takes its name from the fictional Maine town in Stephen King’s work. The supernatural series draws on elements of his writing to tell a new, haunting story.

The cast includes André Holland, Jane Levy, Melanie Lynskey and Bill Skarsgård. The Primetime Emmy-nominated show is presented as a choice for longtime King readers as well as casual horror fans.

Horror Built Around Fear

The recommendations also point to three horror franchises: A Nightmare on Elm Street, Child’s Play and Scream. Their scares stem from different anxieties, including the vulnerability of sleep, the fear of not being believed and the suspicion that someone familiar may be dangerous.

A Nightmare on Elm Street turns exhaustion into a source of danger. Child’s Play plays on the disbelief faced by people who insist they have encountered Chucky, while Scream makes attention to horror conventions part of surviving its mysteries.

Threats Inside The Home

The Conjuring films focus on domestic horror, making houses and ordinary rooms feel unsafe. Their stories center on families and the sense that something has entered the home and may not leave.

In these films, belief and solidarity matter. The people facing the threat are portrayed as relying on one another rather than confronting it alone.
