US ambassador condemns Israel settler attack on journalist amid wider Mideast tensions

Journalist injured in West Bank

Levine was hurt Friday in Abu Falah during an olive harvest where several Palestinians were also injured. She remains in hospital in Tel Aviv, recovering from hand surgery, broken ribs and other wounds.

Levine, an award-winning photographer who has reported from conflict zones for more than four decades, said she was knocked down and beaten for over 10 minutes. She also said the attackers took her camera, passport and phone.

Huckabee calls for prosecution

Israeli police are also investigating an assault on European diplomats in another West Bank village on Saturday. The report says settler violence against Palestinians has risen this year and intensified in recent weeks, as Israel prepares for elections on Oct. 27.

Other regional developments

Yemen’s Houthis said they had brought down a Saudi helicopter. A coalition spokesman, Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki, made a statement hours after that claim, though the report does not provide its contents.

The Houthis are a Shiite religious and political movement based in northern Yemen. They attack Saudi Arabia because it backs Yemen’s internationally recognized government in the civil war, while Saudi forces have struggled to stop recent attacks despite having U.S.-supplied arms.

A British military agency reported that two projectiles struck a vessel traveling off the United Arab Emirates early Sunday. One person was wounded.
