Displacement surges as fighting intensifies across Yemen and humanitarian crisis deepens

Clashes and counteroffensive
Government forces, backed by Saudi Arabia, launched a counteroffensive after reporting losses and began the “Dawn of Yemen” operation. The campaign aims to recapture Houthi-held areas, including Sanaa, which the Iran-aligned group seized in 2014.
Fighting across several fronts
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group’s air defences downed a Saudi reconnaissance drone over Hajjah. He identified it as a Turkish-made Lentatek Karayel and said it was the fourth of that type brought down since the latest escalation began.
Displacement and health concerns
The International Organization for Migration said more than 233,000 people have been displaced since fighting escalated, including about 121,000 in Taiz. UNHCR said more than 4,000 refugees reached East Africa: 3,800 in Djibouti and roughly 200 in Somalia.
Cholera reported in Djibouti
The displacement has extended beyond Yemen as people have reached neighbouring parts of East Africa. The figures come as fighting continues across multiple Yemeni fronts.
