Why Meta says suspending No Kings account during day of action was done in error
Account suspended during event
Meta said Saturday that an automated trigger caused the No Kings movement’s Instagram account to be suspended. The disruption came during a nationwide push to mobilize early voting in the midterms.
The group said its account went dark for several hours when its event was at its busiest. No Kings also reported that it could not access the account for hours after its visibility was restored.
Meta cites automated activity
In a statement on X, Meta spokesman Andy Stone said that accounts posting, sharing or commenting at very high frequencies can set off an automated response. Stone said the system acted on the No Kings account before its day of action. Stone called the suspension an error and said, “Everything is now working as it should.” He also apologized on Meta’s behalf.
Group calls for answers
The group held nearly 3,000 rallies across the country to encourage early voting. It said the effort was intended as a hedge against any attempt to undermine turnout in an election that will decide the balance of power in Congress.
