Can the EU Come to Ukraine’s Rescue Against Russia as US Support Wavers?
Relations Reach a New Low
The relationship between Trump and Zelenskyy has deteriorated further ahead of the US midterm elections. The Ukrainian president criticised an agreement between Washington and Moscow. Trump, in turn, attacked Zelenskyy over what he described as a failure to abide by an energy ceasefire. Trump had announced the ceasefire unilaterally.
US Aid Faces Uncertainty
US military assistance has been critical to Ukraine’s defences in its war against Russia. The worsening relationship between the two presidents poses a risk to that support. The account does not specify what changes, if any, may be made to US military assistance.
Kyiv Turns To Brussels
As it increasingly relies on the European Union, Ukraine has asked Brussels for more air defences. The request comes as the future of US support is uncertain. Whether the EU will come to Ukraine’s aid remains an open question.
