Arrests Expected in Investigation Into Fire That Killed Children and Parents in Waterford

Police pursue further arrests
On Friday, Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly said he anticipated more arrests in the suspected murder investigation. He described the crime as “absolutely horrendous.” Kelly said Gardaí had conducted seven searches and seized a number of items. He said he had spoken with the lead investigator that morning and was satisfied with the investigation’s direction.

Two children remain in hospital
Two other children were taken from the house to hospital in critical condition. They remain at Children’s Health Ireland in Crumlin.
Police warn about intimidation
Kelly linked the case to wider concerns about drugs-related intimidation. He said Gardaí had brought “a number” of prosecutions for such intimidation in the area and had seen increased use of incendiary devices and petrol bombs.
He said police had received good co-operation from the public in the Waterford investigation. Kelly urged anyone facing intimidation or threats of violence to report them to An Garda Síochána.
