Boss Michael Carrick says squad unaffected by Lisandro Martinez fallout ahead of Leeds trip

Carrick says team has moved on

Carrick said he was “telling the truth” when he said the club had moved on from Martinez’s comments. He said the incident had not distracted the group from what it was building or from its shared environment and spirit.

He acknowledged that players can speak emotionally at times when they might not choose the best moment. Carrick said passion and care were welcome, while adding that the way they are expressed matters.

Martinez included for Leeds trip

Carrick confirmed Martinez would be part of Manchester United’s squad for Sunday’s Premier League match at Leeds. Kick-off at Elland Road is scheduled for 14:00 BST. Martinez apologised for his outburst and was fined by Manchester United. His comments singled out the club’s technical director, Wilcox, for criticism.

Wilcox and outside reaction

Former United captains Roy Keane and Gary Neville were among those who weighed in on the situation. Carrick said comments from former players do not necessarily mean they understand what is happening inside the club.

Asked whether Wilcox should explain his actions to the media, Carrick said that was not for him to decide. He also said he did not consider Martinez’s failure to name Wilcox directly to be an issue.

Pressure ahead of Leeds match

Manchester United have won one of their opening six Premier League games. Carrick said ending that run mattered, but insisted the team’s focus was on the club rather than his own future.

He described the club’s history, values and responsibilities as what drives him. The match against Leeds comes amid scrutiny following the fallout and the team’s poor start.
