For Rally Over Jailed Activists, Indian Police Launch Delhi Clampdown on Cockroach Party Supporters

Security tightened before rally
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) called supporters to assemble at New Delhi’s Central Park at 5pm (11:30am GMT). Authorities tightened security in the city ahead of the gathering.
The protest was called after two movement leaders were jailed for five days this week. They were accused of trespassing at a protest site.
Founder warns of possible arrest
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said police might try to arrest him before the protest. He said he and his supporters were “not afraid” and “ready” to go to jail.
Dipke argued that similar restrictions and police action could have prevented current government figures from reaching positions of power. He said they might not have done so if they had faced such measures themselves.
Protests demand electoral reforms
The movement began in May amid anger over leaked exam papers and limited prospects for India’s youth. Political opposition groups have quickly backed the protests, putting Narendra Modi under intense pressure. Some analysts describe the situation as the worst crisis he has faced since taking office in 2014.
