22 romance books to read while you wait for Emily Henry's next novel
Henry’s forthcoming novel, “Modern Classic,” will be her seventh romance. Since her 2020 debut, “Beach Read,” she has published five more books, all of which reached The New York Times bestseller list.
Her stories often pair playful setups with candid takes on relationships. “People We Meet on Vacation,” about longtime friends Poppy and Alex, was adapted into a Netflix film released in January 2026.
In “Beach Read,” writers January Andrews and Augustus are both struggling to produce new work. They challenge each other to try writing in the other’s genre, leading January to help Augustus explore romance.
“Book Lovers” follows Nora, a literary agent who visits a small North Carolina town with her pregnant sister, Libby. Instead of finding the small-town romance Libby hopes for, Nora repeatedly encounters Charlie, a difficult New York editor.
In “Happy Place,” Harriet hides her breakup with Wyn from their friends ahead of an annual Maine trip. The pair pretend to be affectionate during the getaway, forcing Harriet to consider whether she should confront what happened.
