Rebuking Ukraine Over Oil Strikes, Trump Says It Should ‘Get a New President’

President Donald Trump said Ukraine should choose a new president, arguing that Volodymyr Zelenskyy had not done enough to reach a deal with Russia and end the war.

Trump made the remarks outside the White House on Saturday. He also criticized Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries and said Kyiv had been told not to target them.

The comments came amid a dispute over a US deal to buy diesel from Russia. Zelenskyy had criticized the arrangement, according to BBC News; Al Jazeera reported the deal was intended to ease high fuel prices ahead of US midterm elections.

Trump claimed Ukraine had lost 30 percent of its territory and that more than two million people had been killed. DW noted that independent estimates put Russian control at about 20 percent of Ukrainian territory and that recent casualty figures for Ukrainians were not reliable.
