Trump set to talk to Russia's Putin 'very soon' about plague-related death in Siberia

U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he had scheduled a call with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss a possible plague case at a research institute in Siberia.

Trump said U.S. officials were in discussions about the case and that he expected to provide an update, possibly the next day. He did not confirm whether the suspected case had resulted in a death.

A day earlier, Trump said the United States was willing to help Russia respond. The call comes as his administration faces an Oct. 18 deadline to decide whether to impose sanctions on Russian entities under a law signed in September.
