Reform MP raises concerns about second homes – then buys one for £800,000

Sarah Pochin, a Reform UK MP, purchased a second home on Anglesey for £800,000. The purchase came two days after she wrote to a minister about the effects of second-home ownership in rural areas.

In a reply, the minister said high numbers of second homes and short-term lets can limit the supply of homes local people can buy or rent, and affect local services.

Anglesey has seen rising holiday-home ownership. Between 2011 and 2021, it recorded the biggest increase in holiday-home users among UK local authorities, according to the Office for National Statistics.

The island’s council listed 2,635 furnished properties in March 2026 that were not their owners’ main or sole homes. Critics say holiday properties can push up prices, reduce housing availability and place pressure on infrastructure.

A local council leader has also warned that population changes can displace families, leave fewer children in communities and affect schools, while increasing demand for adult services. The article gives no further details about Pochin’s purchase or any response from her.
