Amazon reportedly pays $120 million to stream the Emmys for free

The Television Academy and Amazon have agreed to a six-year arrangement bringing the Emmy Awards to Prime Video. The change starts with the 2027 ceremony.
Viewers worldwide will be able to watch the event without a Prime Video subscription, according to the announcement.
Deadline reports Amazon is paying roughly $20 million to $25 million annually for the rights, putting the deal’s value above $120 million.
Television Academy chair Cris Abrego said Prime Video could extend the Emmys’ reach and support the Academy’s work throughout the year.
The move reflects streaming platforms’ growing interest in major live events. Netflix has the SAG Awards rights, and the Oscars are scheduled to move to YouTube in 2029.
