Former Prince Andrew files legal action to quash warrants that led to residence searches

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has asked London’s High Court to overturn warrants that allowed police to search two of his residences. A court spokesperson confirmed the filing, and a hearing is set for Thursday.

Thames Valley Police searched properties near Windsor Castle and on King Charles III’s Sandringham estate in February. The searches came as officers investigated claims that Andrew passed sensitive information to Jeffrey Epstein while serving as a UK trade envoy.

Police arrested Andrew on suspicion of misconduct in public office and questioned him for 11 hours. He was released under investigation, so he has not been charged or cleared.

The police inquiry remains open. Thames Valley Police said it is also involved in the court proceedings over the warrants but would not comment further while they continue.

The allegations surfaced after the US Justice Department released millions of pages from its Epstein investigation. Andrew’s association with Epstein has brought embarrassment to the royal family and led Andrew to give up royal duties in 2019.

Key points

  • Andrew is asking the High Court to quash warrants for searches of two homes.
  • The searches followed his arrest over alleged information-sharing with Epstein; he was released without charge.
  • Police say their investigation continues, while the court hearing on the warrants is scheduled for Thursday.
