Lara Trump said the Iran war could cost Republicans the midterms. Here's how President Trump responded.

Lara Trump, the president's daughter-in-law, a Fox News host and a former Republican Party co-chair, said the ongoing conflict with Iran might damage Republicans in the midterm elections. She holds no administration position but remains close to President Donald Trump.

She made the remark during an interview with a host named Cole, who asked about the president's management of the conflict and suggested it "could cost him his legacy." She replied it "could cost him these midterms," said his historical record was still undecided, praised him highly, and said the coming two years were important.

President Trump separately told reporters that electoral harm was "possible," while arguing the conflict "should help" Republicans because Iran would be prevented from getting an atomic weapon. A White House spokesperson directed inquiries to those earlier presidential remarks.

Her comment stood out because the White House has generally minimized political risks from the fighting. It suggested concern that continued conflict could threaten Republican control of both chambers of Congress.

Vice President JD Vance offered a different view in September when asked whether fighting would end before the elections. He said he "wouldn't call it a war," praised Operations Midnight Hammer and Epic Fury, and said people would "have to ask the Iranians" about its duration.

Key points

  • Lara Trump says midterms at risk from Iran war.
  • Trump calls harm possible but says no nuclear weapon helps GOP.
  • Vance rejects war label, cites operations, defers to Iran.
