Winners and Losers: Bijan Shines as Falcons’ Defense Struggles in Loss to Bengals

Robinson leads Atlanta’s offense

Bijan Robinson was one of Atlanta’s most effective players as the Falcons tried to stay in the game. He rushed 19 times for 100 yards and a touchdown, averaging 5.3 yards per carry, and added six catches for 47 yards.

His 147 yards from scrimmage stood out as Atlanta struggled to find steady production through the air. Robinson’s work gave the offense a reliable source of positive plays against Cincinnati.

Penix adds a running threat

Michael Penix Jr. ran three times for 50 yards, an average of 16.7 per attempt. His longest rush covered 23 yards, and the total was a career high for him in an NFL game.

Penix completed 18 of 26 passes for 156 yards, one touchdown and an interception. His passing output was modest, but his running gave Atlanta another way to move the ball.

The Falcons’ struggles in the passing game made his rushing contribution especially valuable. Using his mobility could give opposing defenses another element to account for.

London carries receiving load

Drake London led Atlanta with 68 receiving yards on five catches, all on five targets. He did not score, but remained a consistent option for Penix. Atlanta needs more dependable production from its other receivers. The passing attack has relied heavily on London while struggling to create explosive plays.

Penalties deepen Falcons’ problems

Atlanta’s discipline issues repeatedly made it harder to keep pace with Cincinnati. The Falcons were penalized 12 times for 88 yards, both figures contributing to a season-high penalty yardage total.

Penalties wiped out potentially important plays and left Atlanta facing difficult down-and-distance situations. Pre-snap infractions by the offensive line created obstacles before plays could develop. The Falcons also missed opportunities, including another missed field goal by Nick Folk. Meanwhile, Joe Burrow and Cincinnati’s explosive passing attack helped the Bengals pull away for a 34-17 win.
