School employee arrest made in killing of Brooklyn jogger Katie Suarez, fatally stabbed

Suarez died after stabbing
Suarez’s father found her injured along a path in Brooklyn. She was taken to a hospital with a stab wound to her neck, but died from her injuries.
Authorities announced Saturday that a New York City Department of Education employee faces murder charges in her death. The circumstances that led to the killing have not been made clear.
Suspect’s work history questioned
City Councilmember Kayla Santosuosso, State Sen. Andrew Gounardes and Assemblymember-elect Chris McCreight said in a joint statement that Mohassib had no criminal record and had been discharged from the military on psychiatric grounds. They also described him as a former NYPD officer and Marine.
Officials seek employment investigation
The elected officials said Mohassib was working as a teacher’s aide in a public school when the attack occurred. They called for a full investigation into how he was hired and remained employed. Earlier this week, Suarez’s mother, Yasira Suarez, appealed to the suspect to turn themselves in. She said, “You took an angel.”
