BioShock’s Steampunk Replacement Officially Announced for 2027: Meet Clockwork Revolution

BioShock’s long wait continues
More than 13 years have passed since BioShock Infinite launched. 2K announced BioShock 4 in 2019, but meaningful development updates have remained scarce, and the game has no official release date.
Reports in 2025 said the game’s story fell short in an internal review, leading to a major narrative overhaul and leadership changes at Cloud Chamber. The studio later laid off more than 80 employees, and the anticipated release window moved further away. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said he was disappointed by the delays, while expressing renewed confidence after the changes.
A clockwork city in 2027
Clockwork Revolution is an upcoming first-person action RPG from inXile Entertainment, scheduled to arrive in 2027. Its steampunk style and dystopian setting have drawn comparisons to BioShock, especially BioShock Infinite.
The game takes place in Avalon, a vast city with Victorian-inspired design, mechanical automatons and intricate clockwork technology. A divide between wealthy residents and the working class forms part of the central conflict.
History changes reshape Avalon
Players take the role of Morgan Vanette, a customizable character and member of the Rotten Row Hooligans. Morgan discovers that Lady Ironwood has been manipulating history to keep control of the city.
The central time-travel system lets players revisit the past, alter important events and see effects in the present. Those decisions can change characters, relationships and whole neighborhoods; inXile says player choices will have substantial consequences across the adventure.
Combat and platform plans
Combat combines firearms with special abilities, while players can manipulate time during encounters, hack robot or automaton enemies, and craft steampunk weapons and gadgets. The game’s mechanics and setting share familiar elements with BioShock, while its history-changing system offers a distinct direction.
First announced in June 2023, Clockwork Revolution received a substantial showcase in June 2026. Microsoft confirmed its 2027 launch, but has not provided a specific date. The game is planned for Xbox Series X/S and PC, including Steam, and will be available on Xbox Game Pass on launch day. It can already be wishlisted on Steam; preorder and pricing details have not been announced.
