Tennessee's Atmosphere Stands Out as 2027 target joshua lane recaps official visit ahead of college decision

Lane weighs his options
Tennessee hosted Joshua Lane, one of its leading remaining 2027 targets, for an official visit. Lane had previously pledged to Memphis, but decommitted after receiving high-level offers, including one from Tennessee.
He has also taken an official visit to Alabama. Lane discussed his Tennessee trip and what comes next with Vols on SI, GoVols247 and VolQuest.
Atmosphere and Garner stood out
Lane said the atmosphere felt strong, as it had on his earlier campus visit. He also noticed defensive line coach Rodney Garner responding quickly when a player was injured.
“I liked seeing that,” Lane said of Garner being among the first coaches at the injured player’s side. Lane said his relationship with Garner has grown through occasional calls, adding that they know a lot about each other.
Lane assessed the Kentucky game
Lane described Tennessee’s showing against Kentucky as dominant, while saying the Vols could improve their running game. He noted that Kentucky scored six points and said a win was a win.
Lane also said he welcomes competition with players already on the defensive line. He said competing against them would help him improve and strengthen his drive.
Relationships guide his decision
Lane said relationships are the most important factor in his decision so far. He wants to build a strong connection with the coaching staff as he considers his options.
Tennessee has young defensive line talent as well as veterans, and a commitment from Lane would be significant for the program. Lane has not announced a commitment.
