Mickey’s story continues
Season 4 put defense attorney Mickey Haller on trial for the murder of client Sam Scales. Deputy district attorney Dana Berg pursued the case, and Mickey narrowly avoided prison with help from his ex-wife, Maggie, who still has feelings for him.
The finale introduced a new family connection: a woman played by Cobie Smulders saved Mickey from danger and identified herself as his sister, Emi. She wants his help clearing a woman wrongfully convicted of murder, a case that draws Mickey into a dangerous investigation.
A different take on Resurrection Walk
Season 5 is based on Michael Connelly’s novel Resurrection Walk, but it will differ from the book. Detective Harry Bosch, played by Titus Welliver in the Prime Video series, cannot appear in the Netflix show because Amazon holds the character’s rights.
Co-creator Ted Humphrey said Emi is not intended to replace Bosch. He described her as a chance to create new stories, and said the writers wanted the season’s change to come from a personal angle rather than simply another case.
Returning and new cast members
Manuel Garcia-Rulfo returns as Mickey, alongside Becki Newton as Lorna, Jazz Raycole as Izzy and Angus Sampson as Cisco. Neve Campbell is set to appear in a recurring guest role as Maggie.
Gigi Zumbado, Krista Warner and Angélica María are also returning in recurring guest roles. New recurring guest stars include Diane Guerrero, Tricia Helfer and Amy Aquino; Aquino previously appeared in Bosch as a different character.
Release plans and final season
Netflix has not announced a release date. Connelly told a fan on Threads, “Season 5 coming in 2027.” Season 4 premiered on February 5, 2026, after Season 3 debuted in October 2024, but the different premiere months across the four seasons offer little guidance about the next date.
The fifth season is expected to have ten episodes, released all at once. It will be the series’ final season.
