Pokémon Winds and Waves Officially Shares Monster Designs for Its 30th Anniversary

A new look at starters

Pokémon Winds & Waves was announced as part of the series’ 30th anniversary, with a tropical open-world region planned for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. Nintendo’s only official trailer so far introduced three starters: Water-type Gecqua, Fire-type Pombon and Grass-type Browt.

The Pokémon Company has now shared artwork featuring the trio alongside familiar starter Pokémon. It was made for the NHK Symphony Orchestra × Pokémon Classic Concert Tour, held in October. The artwork is by an artist known as sowsow on social media.

Artwork with a retro feel

The concert artwork includes every starter Pokémon, linking the new designs with characters from the franchise’s past three decades. The three new starters are the only ones pictured without instruments, while Pikachu appears as the conductor.

The new view offers little information about Browt, Pombon or Gecqua beyond their appearance. Game Freak has not confirmed their full evolutionary lines, and there is no announced date for revealing them.

Anniversary events continue

The Pokémon Company is marking the series’ 30th anniversary with merchandise, art, collaborations and special events. The concert partnership also coincides with the NHK Symphony Orchestra’s 100th anniversary.

A countdown is currently set for November 30, but no connection to Winds & Waves has been indicated. The article suggests the next major official look at the game could come in February 2027, on Pokémon Day, though that timing has not been confirmed.
