At LSU, Melania Trump Secures $7.2 Million for Foster Care Scholarships Ahead of Alabama Showdown

Endowment supports LSU students

Trump made the announcement at LSU, where university officials, donors and students gathered to recognize the initiative. The permanent fund combines a $5 million gift from MMR Group with $2.2 million raised from 75 LSU Foundation donors.

LSU President Wade Rousse said the $5 million contribution is expected to produce about $200,000 a year. The proceeds can help students pay for tuition, fees, books, room and board.

Initiative focuses on foster care

The scholarships are part of Trump’s “Fostering the Future” initiative, alongside her Be Best program. The event focused on young people who have experienced foster care and are pursuing an education at LSU. Rousse said, “At LSU, we believe talent is everywhere, but we understand that opportunity is not.”
