Musk says Tesla will wind down Cybertruck production in Texas next year to ramp Cybercab output

Factory capacity shifts
Musk said Tesla intends to reduce and then end Cybertruck production at its Gigafactory Texas facility around the middle of next year. He said the space would support higher Cybercab production.
The reporting also describes the end as starting in mid-2027, while Musk’s quoted post says around the middle of next year. It does not explain the difference between those timelines.
It remains unclear whether Tesla will relocate Cybertruck production to another facility or phase out production. Gigafactory Texas in Austin is the only known Tesla factory equipped to build the pickup.
Musk praises the pickup
In a response on X, Musk called the Cybertruck the “best vehicle Tesla has ever made” and described the production shift as the “end of an era.” The vehicle was unveiled in 2019. During the event, Tesla lead designer Franz von Holzhausen threw metal balls at its windows as Musk sought to demonstrate they were shatterproof; two windows cracked.
Recalls since its debut
The Cybertruck officially debuted in 2023. Since then, Tesla has issued 11 recalls for the electric pickup, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Some vehicles needed physical repairs, while others were addressed through over-the-air software updates.
