Cybertruck production to wind down by mid-2027 as Tesla makes room for Cybercabs, Musk says

Production shift to Cybercab

Musk announced on X that Tesla would wind down production of the stainless-steel pickup at its Texas factory by mid-2027. He said the change would “make room for increased Cybercab production,” referring to Tesla’s self-driving taxi.

Tesla unveiled the Cybertruck in 2019. The company promoted its towing capacity and durability, while the vehicle’s boxy design drew attention.

Sales fell from 2024

Kelley Blue Book figures show Tesla sold 20,237 Cybertrucks in 2025, compared with 38,965 the year before. Commercial production began in 2023, and Musk had forecast annual sales of 250,000 trucks.

Future factory plans uncertain

It remains unclear whether Tesla will make Cybertrucks at other factories. The article says Tesla’s Texas gigafactory is the only facility currently producing the pickup, citing Forbes, making a shift elsewhere appear unlikely.

The truck also became a focus of debate about Musk’s role in the Trump administration, where he led the Department of Government Efficiency. Some people vandalized Cybertrucks at Tesla dealerships in protest.
