Everything We Know About Stranger Things' Live-Action Spinoff, Other Worlds

Netflix Orders a New Adventure

Netflix confirmed the series order for Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure on November 6, 2026, known to fans as Stranger Things Day. Matt and Ross Duffer are joint co-creators alongside Kate Trefry, who wrote Stranger Things: The First Shadow.

Trefry will serve as showrunner, writer and executive producer. Joe Wright will direct the first three episodes; the series’ total episode count has not been confirmed. Trefry said she was honored to bring the new chapter to life with the Duffers and Wright. She described it as returning to the original series’ horror, wonder and mystery while telling a new story.

A Nevada Setting in 1955

A brief teaser released by Netflix shows a vintage bicycle, a crackling radio broadcast and what appears to be a government facility beneath a stormy sky. It also introduces a retro logo for the series.

The story begins in Marion, Nevada, on April 19, 1955. That places it before the 1980s events of Stranger Things and before The First Shadow, which is set in 1959.

The Nevada location also sets the series apart from earlier stories centered on Hawkins, Indiana. The Duffers described the show as having a new setting, heroes and villains.

Connections to Henry Creel

The new series may link to Henry Creel’s memory of first encountering the Mind Flayer. In the final episodes of Stranger Things, Henry finds a frightened scientist in an underground desert cave and attacks him before opening his briefcase and discovering a glowing red rock.

The First Shadow’s Dr. Brenner says the incident took place near a military installation in Lincoln County, Nevada, and that the scientist was a Russian spy. The Nevada setting and 1955 timeline align with that account.

Matt Duffer said the spinoff would explore the incident and explain it. He also said it would not deeply explore the Mind Flayer, but would address some remaining loose threads. The Nina Project base from Stranger Things season 4 was also in the Nevada desert.
