Tesla May Kill the Cybertruck in 2027 as Sales Keep Sliding

Musk signals production wind-down

Elon Musk said in a post on his personal X account that Tesla will soon end production of its battery-electric pickup. He said manufacturing at Gigafactory Texas is expected to wind down around the middle of next year.

The timing suggests the 2027 model year could be the Cybertruck’s final one. However, Tesla may move production to another location, a possibility the report describes as unlikely given the truck’s sales performance.

Sales trail early expectations

Tesla delivered 38,965 Cybertrucks in 2024, followed by 20,237 in 2025. Through the first three quarters of 2026, sales totaled 11,586. Those results are far below Musk’s earlier forecast of annual production reaching 250,000 units. Sales have continued to decline since the truck entered the market.

From prototype to production

Tesla first showed the Cybertruck as a prototype in 2019. The vehicle later reached production for the 2024 model year. The company introduced the pickup amid expectations for substantially higher output. Musk’s latest post now points to a production wind-down at its Texas factory.
