Beetlejuice 3: Tim Burton Return Chances Clarified by Sequel Writers in Exclusive Interview

Writers Leave A Door Open

In an exclusive interview with ScreenRant’s Andy Behbakht, Al Gough and Miles Millar discussed whether Beetlejuice Beetlejuice could lead to a third film. The conversation took place as they marked Smallville’s 25th anniversary.

Gough said a new installment was not ruled out, but its future rests with Burton. He added that O’Hara’s passing makes the prospect more difficult.

O’Hara’s Role In The Series

O’Hara returned as Delia Deetz in the 2024 sequel, alongside Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Monica Bellucci, Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Danny DeVito and Willem Dafoe. Her absence would leave a significant gap for a potential third movie.

The franchise began with the 1988 film and later expanded into a four-season animated series and a Broadway musical that earned eight Tony nominations. The legacy sequel arrived in 2024.

Success And Uncertain Plans

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice earned more than $451 million worldwide and received a 76% Rotten Tomatoes rating. The film’s performance suggests the series still attracts audiences across generations. Burton has said he has no current plans for a third movie, while Warner Bros. has reportedly been exploring one. Ortega has said she would not reprise her role unless Burton returned to direct, leaving the possibility of another film unresolved.
