Third 2028 Prospect Departs as FSU football suffers another recruiting blow following Mike Norvell firing

Dobson reopens his recruitment

Three-star defensive end Meshi Dobson announced Wednesday that he was ending his commitment to Florida State and reopening his recruitment. He had selected the Seminoles in July over Alabama, Oregon, Ole Miss, Indiana, North Carolina and Georgia Tech, among others.

Dobson initially moved from the 2028 class to the 2027 class after committing. Florida State had offered him more than a year earlier, and EDGE coach Nick Williams had made him a priority. The uncertainty about who will lead Florida State next and whether Williams will stay prompted Dobson to reassess his decision.

A productive season at Cypress Bay

The 6-foot-3, 235-pound prospect is rated No. 467 overall, No. 43 among EDGE players and No. 59 in Florida in the 2028 class by the 247Sports Composite Ratings.

Three departures since Sunday

Dobson is the third recruit to leave Florida State’s 2028 group since Sunday. Three-star tight end Troy Silberzahn and three-star wide receiver Majay Thompson also decommitted. Florida State now has three verbal commitments in the class, which ranks No. 8 nationally. The departures come as the Seminoles work through the coaching change and prepare for the four games remaining in 2026.
