Clemson Basketball Stock Report after Stetson Win

Tigers start with a win
Clemson defeated Stetson 85-72 on Monday night at Littlejohn Coliseum in its first game of the 2026-27 campaign. The Tigers led by 25 at halftime, then held on as the Hatters mounted a spirited second-half effort.
The result moved head coach Brad Brownell to 16-1 in season openers. The game also offered an early look at players gaining momentum and others still working to establish themselves.
Buckner delivers in first start
Junior Jaeden Buckner returned to the starting lineup for his first Clemson start in 234 days, dating to the ACC Tournament game against Duke. He scored 20 points, shooting 6-for-14 from the field and 3-for-7 from three-point range, and made all five free throws.
Brownell also used Buckner as the starting point guard. He finished with four assists, including two passes each that set up newcomers Cole Certa and David Fuchs for baskets. Buckner said he was focused on staying confident in his shots.
Faulkner leads on both ends
Dylan Faulkner carried his strong exhibition play into his Clemson debut, recording 16 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. The Samford transfer had averaged 20.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in exhibition games.
Clemson ran much of its early offense through Faulkner, a role that could matter more with backcourt experience reduced after Zac Foster’s ACL tear. Brownell praised Faulkner’s poise and comfort with the ball, saying those qualities help the team.
Thomas and Steinour face hurdles
Dallas Thomas had a quieter game after showing scoring and defensive promise in the preseason. In 16 minutes against Stetson, he scored one point, committed one turnover, went 1-for-4 at the free-throw line and missed his only field-goal attempt.
Brownell has said Thomas needs to defend, rebound and sustain his effort to earn more playing time. Thomas averaged 4.4 minutes per game last season and could have a larger role in 2026-27 as Clemson pursues a fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
Sophomore center Steinour’s time was limited by early fouls. He entered with 15:28 left in the first half but was replaced by Faulkner after 34 seconds, having picked up two fouls while battling Stetson forward Magnus Entenmann for position. He should have more chances as nonconference play continues.
