World of Warcraft Forever Review in Progress: A Warm Embrace Like an Old Friend, With Fresh Reasons to Explore

Classic Roots, New Direction
World of Warcraft: Forever builds on the original game’s setting and gameplay, but gives Blizzard room to add content beyond the familiar Classic path. The original Classic release began in 2019 and moved through expansions up to Mists of Pandaria.
As time passed, players knew what content was coming and how to progress through it quickly. Forever seeks to address that finite quality with new locations and systems, while keeping the recognizable foundation that longtime players know. The reviewer says the early experience suggests a major success for Blizzard.
A World Renewed
Forever adds more than 1,000 quests, a new race called the Skyborne, nine dungeons and two endgame raids. Not all of the additions were available to test, but the material that was accessible felt integrated into the world.
Four new instances were available to explore, each with strengths and weaknesses. Familiar zones have also received environmental changes, new friendly characters and enemies, and additional activities. The new areas, including those for the Skyborne starting experience, feel at home within the wider continents.
Professions Gain Importance
Many underlying systems have changed, with professions among the most substantially revised. The new approaches are intended to make each pursuit matter more to a player’s overall experience.
More than 600 recipes have been added, and existing recipes have been adjusted so crafted gear, food and other items offer greater value. Professions also connect to two new systems, campfires and Legacy Points. The review says these changes could make it less likely that only a few professions dominate the game.
