Netflix’s Taken: Natalee Holloway Revisits the Case and Reveals Where Joran van der Sloot Is Now

Van der Sloot’s Admission

Van der Sloot was 17 when Holloway disappeared and was among the last people known to have seen her. In 2023, he admitted that he killed her in Aruba.

According to a transcript of his account, he said Holloway rejected his advances while they were walking on a beach. He said he kicked her, struck her with a cinder block and pushed her body into the sea.

Sentences in Peru and the U.S.

Van der Sloot is imprisoned in Peru, serving a 28-year sentence for the 2010 murder of Stephany Flores Ramírez. The 21-year-old business student was found dead in a Lima hotel room after checking in with him.

In January 2012, van der Sloot was sentenced for Flores Ramírez’s murder and ordered to pay compensation to her family. In 2023, he also admitted killing her, and pleaded guilty to U.S. charges of extortion and wire fraud, receiving a 20-year sentence that runs concurrently with his Peruvian sentence.

A Documentary Revisits the Case

Taken: Natalee Holloway is a three-part Netflix documentary about Holloway’s disappearance and the search for answers. It revisits the case through the perspective of her mother, Beth, who speaks about her ordeal in detail.
