Rose Hill brings Prime Video’s upcoming small town romance adaptation into the Virgin River meets Ransom Canyon trend
A New Rose Hill Series
Prime Video is developing a potentially multi-season adaptation of Elsie Silver’s bestselling Rose Hill series. The first season will chronicle Wild Love, introducing childhood friends Ford Grant and West Belmont.
Ford, a billionaire record producer, reunites with West’s younger sister, Rosie. West, a horse wrangler, meets pop-country star Skylar; the story unfolds in Rose Hill, a rugged Canadian mountain town.
Romance With Difficulties
Rose Hill’s setting includes mountains, a secluded lake, open skies and local bars, while its characters give the town a lived-in feel. Each book explores another part of the community as new characters arrive.
The stories also include serious challenges. In Wild Love, Rosie faces workplace harassment and misogyny, while Skylar experiences emotional abuse. The article compares their paths toward healing with Mel and Jack’s relationship in Virgin River.
Familiar Western Romance Elements
The article draws parallels between Rose Hill and Ransom Canyon. Skylar’s conflict between her music career and staying in town is compared with Quinn’s situation, while Ford’s long-standing love for Rosie is likened to Staten’s feelings for Quinn.
West is also a rancher devoted to his horses and work, like Staten. The stories use familiar romance elements while giving their characters distinct experiences.
Netflix Also Adapting Silver
Virgin River remains in development at Netflix, with season eight on the way and executives not ruling out a ninth installment. Ransom Canyon, by contrast, was canceled after two seasons.
Netflix is developing an adaptation of Silver’s five-book Chestnut Springs series, setting up two streaming adaptations of her Western romance novels. Silver’s series are interconnected, but she has confirmed that Willa Grant will not appear in Prime Video’s Rose Hill series.
