Keselowski's exit lets RFK Racing take Ryan Preece from No. 60 to iconic No. 6 in 2027

A historic number changes hands

RFK Racing said Preece, who has driven its No. 60 Ford for the past two seasons, will take over the No. 6 in 2027. The move comes as Keselowski prepares to leave the organization after the 2026 season.

The No. 6 was the first car number used by Roush Racing, with Mark Martin driving it in 1988. David Ragan, Trevor Bayne, Ryan Newman and, more recently, Keselowski have also driven the car.

Preece embraces the opportunity

RFK Racing President Chip Bowers described Preece as a fitting choice for the number and said the team expects the car’s history to continue. Preece said being trusted with the No. 6 was deeply meaningful to him.

Preece pointed to Jack Roush and Martin when discussing the number’s significance to the organization. Martin, who drove the No. 6 first for Roush, said he respected Preece’s determination and considered him a strong fit.

Team and entry plans for 2027

Preece will bring the personnel from his current No. 60 team to the No. 6, including crew chief Derrick Finley. He scored his first NASCAR Cup Series win this season in the No. 60 Ford.

The No. 60 has competed as a chartered entry through a lease agreement with Rick Ware Racing. That charter will not be available to RFK Racing next season, so the No. 60 is expected to run as an open car in 2027.
