TMNT Sequel Confirms Radical Redesign for a Classic Series Villain

A new Turtles comic series

Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Coastal Chaos #1 launched in September from IDW Publishing. Writer Andrew Joustra and artist Louie Joyce lead the series, which brings back Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael.

The title recalls a two-season animated series that premiered on Paramount+ in 2024. That show was intended to connect the 2023 Mutant Mayhem movie with its planned 2027 sequel, but it was canceled during Paramount’s restructuring after its merger with Skydance. IDW brought this Turtles iteration to comics in October 2025.

Armaggon makes his entrance

Armaggon was teased in the first Coastal Chaos issue, but his full debut comes in issue #2. The Turtles confront him over recent attacks on the beach, including an assault on Mikey while he was surfing and attacks on other beachgoers.

A striking new appearance

Joyce moves away from Armaggon’s usual hulking build, giving him a slender, almost sickly look. The redesign features twig-like arms and scarred skin, while retaining familiar elements such as cybernetic weaponry.

The comic’s synopsis for issue #3 sets up a sea-bound danger: the Turtles are stranded on a sinking ship with a hungry mutated shark nearby. The story’s setup evokes JAWS, while keeping the focus on the Turtles and Armaggon.

Issue two is available

Coastal Chaos #2 is available from IDW Publishing. The article describes the series as a fun take on the Turtles and highlights Joyce’s artwork as a reason to read it.

Key points

  • Armaggon makes his full debut in Coastal Chaos #2 after brief glimpses in the first issue.
  • The Turtles confront the shark villain over attacks on Mikey and other beachgoers.
  • Louie Joyce’s redesign gives Armaggon a slender, scarred appearance while preserving cybernetic weaponry.
  • The issue #3 synopsis places the Turtles on a sinking ship with a hungry mutated shark nearby.
