A naval officer drawn into danger

Trinity follows Commander Katherine Decker, played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who serves as second-in-command aboard the nuclear submarine USS Kansas. She forms an unexpected connection with Secretary of Defense Webb Preston, played by Richard Madden.

That relationship leads Decker into dangerous activity surrounding a top-secret program called Trinity. The secretary appears charismatic, but Decker comes to suspect he may be central to a wider conspiracy.

Mercurio reunites with Madden

Jed Mercurio created and wrote Trinity, reuniting with Madden after their work together on Bodyguard and other projects. Madden previously starred in the Netflix series, which received an Emmy nomination.

Mercurio told Tudum that Madden is a talented, dedicated performer who strengthens every script. He said Madden’s portrayal of Preston should keep viewers guessing through the season’s end.

Cast and release date

Mbatha-Raw plays Decker, and the cast also includes Marcia Gay Harden, JD Pardo, James Remar and Bruce Greenwood. Mercurio said he was honored that Mbatha-Raw accepted the role and described working with Harden as a joy and privilege. Netflix is set to release Trinity on December 1.
