Marvel's Next Live Action Series Gets Bold Multi Season Budget Plan as Zodiac Takes Shape

A budget aimed at longevity

The Wrap reported that Zodiac is being made with a more modest budget, which could help the series continue beyond its first season. The report also said familiar characters and actors could appear in supporting roles, but did not identify anyone.

A Marvel Television insider told The Wrap that the series could offer new viewers an entry point into the franchise. The insider said the show is also meant to deliver a satisfying story for people who do not follow Marvel, while including possible rewards for viewers familiar with its history.

Spies and secret missions

The series was formally announced at New York Comic-Con 2026. Deadline reported in October that it would follow two spies chasing targets with special abilities. Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum described the project to Collider as an international espionage story involving secrets, lies, betrayals and acts of loyalty. He said the show would film in London, but called the project a secret and said audiences would enjoy discovering it for themselves.

Filming and casting plans

Filming is set to begin in 2027, and casting is underway for the Phase 7 drama. However, Winderbaum’s earlier comment that filming would take place in London “next spring” does not specify a year, leaving the timing unclear.

Amit Cohen and Ron Leshem have been named showrunners. No cast members have been announced, though Clark Gregg’s Instagram story sharing the Zodiac logo prompted online speculation about a possible return.

Possible ties to Agents of SHIELD

Some fans have theorized that Zodiac may connect to Agents of SHIELD, whose premise has similarities to the new series. The show’s place in the wider Marvel timeline remains uncertain, and no connection has been confirmed.

Kevin Feige has said Avengers: Secret Wars will lead to a franchise reset. Because Zodiac is planned for after that Phase 6 film, the reset could affect how earlier characters fit into the timeline, but the report does not confirm that Agents of SHIELD characters will return.
