Rowling’s Secret Strike Series Officially Confirms Its December 2026 Release Date

A December return for Strike

The BBC has confirmed the seventh series of Strike, titled Strike: The Running Grave, will arrive in December 2026. The new installment will consist of five parts. Tom Burke returns as private detective Cormoran Strike, with Holliday Grainger reprising the role of his partner, Robin Ellacott. The series adapts Rowling’s seventh novel in the crime franchise published under her pseudonym, Robert Galbraith.

A family seeks help

Sir Colin and Sally Edensor ask Strike and Ellacott to help them reconnect with their estranged son, Will. They want evidence that could discredit the Universal Humanitarian Church.

The couple believe the religious cult has indoctrinated Will and drained his trust fund. The investigation places the detectives in the middle of the family’s effort to reach him.

Rowling’s crime-writing career

Rowling launched the Cormoran Strike novels as Robert Galbraith, seeking a fresh writing career without the expectations surrounding her Harry Potter success. Media investigations revealed her identity a few months after The Cuckoo’s Calling was published.

The series has since grown to eight published novels, with a ninth in development. Rowling is also part of the creative team behind HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter adaptation.
