No-Cost Library Access: Harry Potter Full-Cast Audio Editions Officially Become Free December 2026

Library access begins in December

Pottermore Publishing announced that participating public libraries worldwide will offer all seven Harry Potter Full-Cast Audio Editions for free borrowing. The releases will be spread across three dates, beginning December 1, 2026.

Two casts voice the books

Cush Jumbo narrates the series. Hugh Laurie voices Albus Dumbledore, Matthew Macfadyen voices Lord Voldemort, Riz Ahmed voices Professor Severus Snape, Kit Harington voices Professor Gilderoy Lockhart, and Keira Knightley voices Professor Dolores Umbridge.

Frankie Treadaway, Max Lester, and Arabella Stanton voice Harry, Ron, and Hermione in the first three audiobooks. Starting with Goblet of Fire, Jaxon Knopf, Rhys Mulligan, and Nina Barker-Francis take over those roles through the last book.

Publisher highlights library role

Jennie McCann, managing director of Pottermore Publishing, said libraries connect people with stories and help foster a lasting interest in reading. She said the company was pleased to bring the audio editions to libraries and described them as an immersive way to experience Hogwarts.

McCann also said libraries help make storytelling accessible and encourage future readers. The free-borrowing program will introduce the editions to new listeners and offer existing fans a way to revisit the series.

A separate television adaptation

HBO's television adaptation is expected to arrive in 2027, with filming taking place through 2025 and 2026. Dominic McLaughlin takes over the role of Harry in the series.

The audio editions are a separate project from the television adaptation. Their library release begins before the HBO series is due to arrive.
